Ynys Môn

A place for adventure, connection, wellbeing and learning

Ynys Môn/Anglesey is an excellent adventure activities destination. An island with 125 miles of stunning unspoilt coastline with long sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and isolated coves, much of it is in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and all linked by the Anglesey Coastal Path. https://www.visitanglesey.co.uk/en-gb/explore/isle-of-anglesey-coastal-path

Mynydd Tŵr/ Holyhead Mountain with its rugged cliff paths and breathtaking views reaches a peak of 220 metres. At the summit there is a trig point with 360 degree views over Anglesey, Holyhead town and breakwater and on a clear day the Wicklow Mountains https://www.andrewswalks.co.uk/holyhead-mountain

South Stack Light House https://www.visitanglesey.co.uk/en-gb/explore/wildlife/south-stack  is situated on Holy Island’s northwest coast, offering spectacular views of the huge seabird colony, home to many different species. You can get amazing close-up views of the nesting birds at Ellin’s Tower https://www.rspb.org.uk/days-out/reserves/south-stack which contains binoculars, telescopes and live CCTV images streamed directly from the cliff face!

Also a haven for wildlife and home to some of Britain’s rarest mammals, including the red squirrel, water vole and otter. On the coast you can see seals, porpoise, puffins, peregrine falcons and chough.  From fun rock pooling to serious bird watching https://www.visitwales.com/destinations/north-wales/isle-anglesey/bird-watching-anglesey-david-lindo Anglesey has many natural wonders waiting to be explored. The North Wales Wildlife Trust https://www.northwaleswildlifetrust.org.uk/days-out has a great guide for ideas to explore the wildlife and wild places of North Wales.

Travelling around the island you travel through time. Haunting neolithic burial mounds and standing stones, celtic hut circles, a Roman fort at Holyhead and the Edwardian castle at Beaumaris all provide evidence of Anglesey’s rich heritage. Anglesey has been home to druids and saints, the Princes of Gwynedd, the witches of Llanddona and ship-wreckers of Rhosneigr, and is steeped in folklore. For the more active there are bike trails at Newborough, some of Britain’s best sea kayaking on the North and West coasts, Kite Surfing in Rhosneigr, and scuba diving in Trearddur Bay. Anglesey is also becoming known for it’s adventure events including the Sandman Triathlon, Tour de Mon cycling sportif, Sea Kayak Storm Gatherings and Cybi Coastal Marathon https://cybicoastalmarathon.co.uk/
