…of hosting school, college and university groups we are an established venue for educational groups on field study trips and school holidays. A perfect venue for winter study retreats.

Field trips

Our superb coastal location allows from-the-door access to rocky shores, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and cliffs for studying the rich biodiversity and varied coastal habitats.

We are also ideally placed within walking distance of the geologically instructive coastal Geopark, with easily accessible coastal exposures, the area is perfect for detailed mapping exercises.

There is plenty of room in our communal areas for setting up labs and evening work. We also have a 24ft yurt with a power supply and tables and chairs which can be hired for additional lab space, workshops or lectures.

School Trips and Holidays

We recognise that a school trip is often the first time a child stays away from home, and it can be an exciting but daunting prospect, Outdoor Alternative offers a friendly and flexible approach, offering exclusive use of the accommodation, with no need to share, a place that can become home for a few days. Book on a self catered basis or let us look after you. There is plenty of outside space to play and only a five minute walk to the sandy beach of Borthwen. Perfect for beach games, rock pooling or an evening fire.

You can have the freedom to offer a self led residential or work with Andy at B-Active, our onsite AALA licensed activity provider. Andy is happy to tailor a program of activities to suit the needs of your school. Activity breaks might include outdoor activities such as kayaking, coasteering, orienteering and team building challenges and or environmental activities such as rocky shore exploration, rock pooling, nature identification and wildlife walks. We work closely with the North Wales Wildlife Trust to provide a high quality nature experience.

Our fantastic location means that all activities can be enjoyed directly from the door.

Please contact us to discuss the needs of your group, we have the flexibility to offer you comfortable accommodation suited to the size of your group and are happy to provide the catering options that suit you. 

• we offer a per person rate with discounts for more than 3 night bookings
• we look for a minimum of 12 to book one of the bunkhouses
• we can accommodate up to 41 in both bunkhouses including Ty Bach
• we can accommodate 47 with the use of the static caravan
• the static caravan can be added to your booking if you require separate space for your staff or demonstrators
• our 24ft yurt can be hired as additional space, including power supply, chairs and tables, projector screen.
• we offer full catering, cooked breakfast, packed lunch and 3 course evening meals, teas and coffee and biscuits available to help yourselves to.
• or we can provide just the meals you require.
• plenty of outside space for free time with a designated field for games.
